Des Fitzgerald

Lecturer in Sociology

Des is a sociologist of neuroscience, psychiatry and mental health.

He has co-authored the first Urban Transformations key debate on the Neurosocial City with Nikolas Rose based on an ESRC-funded project about the links links between urban life, neurobiology, and mental illness. The project seeks to produce a comprehensive, transdisciplinary understanding account of the relations between urbanicity, psychiatric diagnosis and the brain, by joining sociological, neuroscientific, and psychiatric expertises, through a series of workshops, historical re-imaginings, and conceptual arguments.

He is a collaborator on the Hubbub project of the Wellcome Trust.
