Oxford Spring School UK City Futures

Event type: UT
Date: 04/05/2017

The “cities agenda” in the UK has undergone major changes of late. The new government’s priorities for restructuring the British model of growth will foreground the roles of cities in shaping the UK’s economic future in the Industrial Strategies Challenge Fund. Research ‘on’ and ‘in’ cities has never shown greater potential in interdisciplinary capacity, a potential not always realised in the architecture of the UK’s traditionally specialised discipline oriented research council funding structures.

This symposium seeks to combine the policy and research conversations over 2 days at an intensive “Spring School” of invited delegates in Oxford and to share insights from the urban transformations team and the extended community developing the new cities research. It seeks to set an agenda for policy engaged, future facing urban work within and beyond the University of Oxford that directly addresses the emergent agenda of the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund and the new research and innovation ecosystem.
